Língua

A língua materna falada em Portugal é o português, também conhecida como língua de Camões. A língua portuguesa provém da evolução de um dialecto do latim falado, predominante nas camadas socioculturais relativamente elevadas. Este latim foi transmitido no noroeste da Península, a povos de raça e língua indo-europeia pré-celta e celta. Assim sendo, talvez algumas das transformações que sofrera sejam atribuídas à influência dos hábitos articulatórios desses povos.
O português é a terceira língua da Europa mais falada em todo o mundo, por cerca de 200 milhões de pessoas.

 

The main language in Portugal is Portuguese, also known as the language of Camões. The Portuguese language derives from the evolution of a dialect from the spoken Latin, from the upper social classes. This Latin was transmitted in the northeast of the Iberian Peninsula to peoples of Celtic and pre-Celtic race and indo-European language. Therefore, some of its transformations are probably due to the influence of those peoples’ way of speaking.
The Portuguese language is the 3rd most spoken European language in the world, for about 200 million people.

O Euro (€) é a moeda oficial portuguesa. Circulam notas de 5€, 10€, 20€, 50€, 100€, 200€, 500€ e moedas de: 0,01€; 0,02€; 0,05€; 0,10€; 0,20€; 0,50€; 1€ e 2€.

Devido ao perigo de falsificação e dificuldade em arranjar troco, a maior parte dos estabelecimentos não são obrigados a aceitar pagamentos em notas de 200 e 500€.

 

The Euro (€) is the official currency of Portugal. In circulation there are bills of 5€, 10€, 20€, 50€, 100€, 200€ and 500€, and coins of 0,01€, 0,02€, 0,05€, 0,10€, 0,20€, 0,50€, 1€ and 2€.

Due to the danger of falsification and dificulty to exchange, most establishments are not forced to accept payments with 200 and 500€ bills.

Na sua grande maioria, os portugueses assumem-se como católicos. No entanto, e num contexto de liberdade religiosa, muitas pessoas são praticantes de outras religiões.

 

Most Portuguese people are Roman Catholics; however, the religious freedom in the country allows people to follow its chosen religion.

Telecomunicações

Em Portugal os números de telefone fixo são iniciados pelo número 2.
Se desejar telefonar do estrangeiro para Peniche, por exemplo, deverá marcar o código do país 00 351, seguido do 262 e do número para o qual quer telefonar.
Nas cabines telefónicas públicas podem-se utilizar moedas ou cartões específicos que estão à venda nas lojas Portugal Telecom, nas estações de correio e em alguns quiosques e tabacarias (assinalados no local). Os indicativos dos países estão expostos nas cabinas.

Todos os numeros de telemóvel começam por um 9.

 

In Portugal all landline telephone numbers begin by 2. If you wish to call Leiria from abroad, for instance, you should dial 00 351 followed by 244 and then the local number.
In the public phone boxes it’s possible to use coins and cards sold in the Portugal Telecom offices, post offices and on some identified kiosk and shops. The countries’ dialling codes are fixed in the telephone boxes.

All cellphone numbers start with a 9.

Corrente Eléctrica

---

A corrente eléctrica em Portugal é de 230 / 400 volts, na frequência de 50 hertz. As tomadas de corrente seguem as normas europeias. A utilização de fichas de lâmina (padrão americano) deve ser conjugada com um transformador para 230 volts e, ainda, uma ficha adaptadora.

The electric current in Portugal is of 230 / 400 volts, in the 50-hertz frequency. Most of the electric plugs follow European standards. Blade plugs (American pattern) must be used with a transformer for the 230 volts and also with an adapter plug.

Dvd area and subtitles

Portugal está incluido na area 2 para dvd's. Regra geral, os filmes na televisão e no cinema são passados na sua lingua original, com legendas.

A excepção é apenas nos filmes para crianças, que são dobrados para português.

 

Portugal is included in the dvd region 2. Generally the movies on television and cinemas are in their original language, with subtitles.

Exception made to children's movies which are dubbed to portuguese.
